Delicate Wilson Scoter
This bird comes from a small group of slightly undersized eiders, scoters, and goldeneyes that all seem to be found in the Rockland/North Haven/Vinalhaven area; most likely made for use in the smaller calmer coves of the islands, hence the smaller size. It has an interesting upswept tail, carved winglines, and inletted head with early square nails.
Part of John Dinan's collection and a bird that he actually used himself. Branded Dinan with an incised "V" on bottom.
Professional restoration to bill and clean tight break of neck. Some dry brush strengthening to paint on body that has been buffed down.
This decoy has a great classic Maine look for short money.
Measures 12.5" long, 7.75" high.
