Delicate Maine Eider
 
Maine has always been known for folky oversized decoys, especially its eiders, so this delicate bird is a rarity! Measuring only 15" long and 7.5" wide, it is probably the most petite eider we have ever seen.
 
This drake is in hard-to-find 100% original paint, with a one-piece body, and an inletted head with a rather interesting piece joined to extend the bill (absolutely done during construction and completely original). There is a small ring of residue on neck from remnants of an old-style rubber band.
 
This classic decoy has all the bells and whistles: great folk art appeal, original paint, excellent dry surface. As for the painted eyes—they are to-die-for! This bird just makes you smile and speaks for itself.
