Racy Merganser Hen by Clarence Ernst (Indian Point, Nova Scotia)
This bird was last sold in 1986 at a Richard W. Oliver sale in Kennebunk, ME and has since remained in an old-time collection on the coast of Maine. She rested on a high shelf in the kitchen until just recently!
The long thin racy body, raised wing shoulder and tail definition, swooping breast, along with its prominent upright head are what Ernst was known for. A truly classic Maritime merganser.
Overall excellent condition. Slight shrinkage crack to neck seam with one small chip.
She has a wonderful soft patina developed from its 35+ years on the kitchen shelf!
19.5" long, 6.75" high, 6.5" wide
