Matched pair of seagulls acquired directly from the Davis homestead on Monhegan Island off the midcoast of Maine. Truly authentic Monhegan pieces are hard to come by!
Condition: Good original condition, 1 tight neck crack that was reglued many years ago.
Provenance: These handmade birds came from the estate of Ed Johnson, a longtime artist on Monhegan Island, ME, who put together a collection of historical items by buying from yard sales and church sales on the island over a period of 40 years. This pair was purchased from a sale held at the original Davis family homestead on the top of the hill near the wharf.
Measurements: Split tail is 15.5" long by 8" high. Base is 7" by 3.25"
Other is 15" long by 8.75" high. Base is 6.5" by 3"
Both are made from 3/8" box board.
