Hard-to-Find Early Ruffed Grouse by James Ahearn (Ridgefield, CT)
A wonderful and hard to find early example of Ahearn's work from his personal model collection. Acquired 5 years ago directly from the family home. Ahearn kept only the best examples of each species he carved. He used these for patterns while painting. All of these birds were marked "model."
 
Dry crisp patina. Two hairline separations in underside of body where the wood has been joined.
 
A very early carving with an extremely detailed paint pattern.
Measures 5.5" high and 7" long.
