Rare half-size quail by AJ Ditman, Englewood NJ (1884–1974). This bird has an excellent soft mellow patina, glass eyes, and a very highly detailed paint pattern (for such an early example). Over the years, we have only seen one other half size carving by Ditman. Most of his carvings were half this size, or smaller.
A wonderful piece of folk art by a highly sought-after carver.
