Goldeneye Trinket Box by Ralph Laurie (Hingham, MA)
This is kind of an interesting piece for Laurie. When I first saw this goldeneye I thought it might be a north shore piece, but it bears Laurie's stamp on the inside. I've seen one or two other similar boxes but, if memory serves, they were both mallards. A nicely carved bird, with uplifted bill and a robust round form. Glass eyes, carved bill, green felt on bottom. Approximately 1/3 size.
A rare piece for this under-rated carver.
Fresh from an old-time MA collection that was collected and upgraded over 50+ years.
Excellent and original in all respects. Slight crazing to paint.
Measures 8.5" long, 5.25" tall, and 3.5" wide.
