Rare Shoveller Pair on Driftwood

Great pair of shovellers mounted on driftwood by Carl Malmstrom (Back Cove, ME) circa 1960s. A very unusual species for the maker; we have never seen any before!

Malmstrom very often signed his carvings with a red pen. You can see the beginning of a description on the bottom in red pen (see photo). The bottom of the driftwood has been shaved down, taking the remainder of the signature off. We believe this was done to make the piece balance better on the shelf.

Profession restoration to 3/4 of bill on drake. Repair to chip on tail of hen.

Measurements: Overall Base: 15.5" x 7" | Drake: 9" long | Hen: 6.5" long
